Gulf of Maine Case



           Ever heard about this Gulf of Maine Case? This case is about the border issue between the United States and Canada. Litiation filed by a means to an international tribunal is the International Court. In this dispute for the first time established the International Court Dispute Settlement Chamber (Chamber of Disputte Settlement) under section 26 (1). The main issue raised is the establishment of a single border (single maritime boundary) is used. Canada's proposed limits are equidistance line, but the United States wants the border depends on the relevant circumstances in the region. Also according to Canada, the Gulf of Maine and its adjacent region including the important part because memunyai relationships are complex and have important biological processes. This region is also an important marine ecosystems in the northern region. On the other hand the United States stated that this area has the characteristics of the regime based on three principles of ecology. In this case the Gulf of Maine was also forming a community of flora and Funa in all cycles of food webs from the smallest to the largest fish. International Court of Justice later studied this case.
